Senator Tammy Baldwin has announced that the City of Janesville has received $5 million in Congressional Directed Spending, a federal appropriation secured through the annual budget process, to assist in community blight removal.

These federal funds will provide critical financial support to advance the City’s efforts to revitalize blighted commercial areas, including demolition of unsafe structures, environmental remediation, and site preparation for future redevelopment.

“This $5 million federal investment is a game-changer for Janesville,” said City Economic Development Director Jimsi Kuborn. “It gives the City the tools to finally tackle long-standing blight across our community, improving public health and safety, removing barriers to reinvestment, and preparing sites for future redevelopment.”

The City has prioritized blight elimination as part of its broader economic and community development strategy, and the federal appropriation will serve to expand the capacity of these efforts.

“We are deeply grateful to Senator Baldwin for her leadership and partnership in securing these funds, which will help us turn underutilized and unsafe sites into opportunities that strengthen our neighborhoods and support long-term economic vitality,” Kuborn added.
