Janesville Historic Commission Seeking Nominations for 2026 Historic Preservation Award

Post Date:02/24/2026 9:25 am

In celebration of National Historic Preservation Month, the Janesville Historic Commission is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Historic Preservation Award. This program recognizes outstanding efforts in historic preservation and restoration within the City of Janesville.

Community members are encouraged to nominate projects that demonstrate a strong commitment to preserving Janesville’s historic character.

Eligible projects must be located within Janesville, with nominations including:

  • The project’s street address
  • A brief description of the preservation work
  • The nominator’s contact information

The winner will be announced at a Historic Commission meeting in May. Last year’s award was presented to the Wilson-King Stone House (460 N. Jackson St.) and the 109–113 E. Milwaukee St. building. Both projects included significant structural improvements while maintaining and showcasing the buildings’ history and character.

To submit a nomination, complete the online form on the City’s website. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 27.

For more information, contact Associate Planner Makenzee Wilcox at (608) 373-6071 or at wilcoxm@janesvillewi.gov.
