Join the 2026 Summer Library Challenge

Post Date:05/19/2026 9:13 am

The Hedberg Public Library is excited to offer the Unearth a Story summer library challenge starting Monday, June 15. This free program for babies, kids, teens, and adults is a fun way to keep track of your reading and activities and earn prizes and a free book.

Register for the summer library challenge anytime from June 15-August 7 at the library or by downloading the Beanstack app for iOS or Android.

Again this summer, lanyards, stickers and buttons will be available upon registration. Stop at the library’s Summer Desk, at HPL Express in Uptown Janesville or on the HPL Bookmobile to pick up your lanyard.

Read and Complete Activities June 15 – August 7

Complete 8 reading levels throughout the summer. On your Reading Log, color or mark a picture when you have completed that increment of reading time. In Beanstack, log your reading online or in the app. Don’t forget that ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, comics, newspapers, and magazines count toward your reading time. All reading must be logged by August 7.

Complete an activity for each level and mark it on your Reading Log or complete that level’s activity badge in Beanstack. Try one of our suggested activities on the Reading Log or in Beanstack or visit the library’s Summer Library Challenge website for additional activities. All activities must be logged by August 7.

Pick Up a Free Book August 1-21

Summer Library Challenge participants of all ages will receive a FREE BOOK at the end of the Summer Library Challenge. Books for all ages will be available at the library’s Summer Desk from August 1-21.

For more information, visit the Library’s website or call (608) 758-6600.
