The teepee play structure at the Peace Park Playground will be closed to the public on Monday, August 17, as City of Janesville staff begin removing play components, fencing, and safety surfacing in preparation for a planned renovation.

Beginning August 31, the Parks Division will start the rebuild phase, which includes:

• Covering existing wooden components with plastic extruded lumber to extend their lifespan.
•  Replacing worn wooden features with durable plastic and metal components.
• Replacing wooden swing bays with new metal structures.

The rebuild phase is expected to run through September 10. Once complete, a contractor will install all new poured‑in‑place rubber surfacing. That work is anticipated to begin in mid‑September and take approximately two weeks to finish.

As part of the renovation, the existing playground fence, constructed with plastic engraved pickets donated by families, businesses, and organizations, will be removed and replaced with more durable material. Donated pickets will be made available for pickup as keepsakes. Families and organizations may retrieve their picket from the storage room at the Peace Park Pavilion between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on August 31 through September 4 and September 8 through 10. Any remaining pickets will be discarded once the renovation is complete.
