The Janesville Police Department operates three shifts per day, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. The shifts are divided as "A-Shift" which cover mornings and early afternoon hours, "B-Shift" which covers afternoon and evening hours, and "C-Shift" which covers late night and early morning hours. Each shift is supervised by three sergeants and one lieutenant. Each lieutenant is supervised by the Deputy Chief of Operations.
Patrol officers participate in a number of supplemental assignments including, but not limited to, BearCat Driver, Bicycle Patrol, Crisis Intervention Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Domestic Violence Intervention Team, Drone Operator, Drug Recognition Expert, Field Training Officer, Homeless Outreach Team, K9 Officer, Mobile Field Force, Peer Support, Public Safety Cadet Program, SWAT Team, Traffic Enforcement Team, and Range Officer.
The City of Janesville is divided into eight patrol areas. The areas are equalized based upon history of calls for service, while taking into consideration geographical features and natural neighborhood boundaries. Below is a map showing the eight patrol area boundaries.
