Overview

The City of Janesville’s Operations Division is committed to providing the City with safe and reliable roadways before, during, and after winter weather events, while minimizing snow and ice control costs and adverse impacts to the environment.

 Plowing HWY 14

Four City plow trucks work together to clear Humes Rd (Hwy 14) after a snow storm.

The primary objectives of the Operations Department snow and ice control team are as follows:

  1. Plow all City roadways within 10 hours of snow storm cessation with accumulations greater than 2 to 3 inches.
  2. Treat all arterials, collectors, bus routes, hills, and hazardous intersections with de-icing chemicals and/or abrasives to achieve bare pavement.
  3. Remove snow from the downtown area within 48 hours of snow storm cessation, if accumulation warrants.
  4. Clear snow and ice from all sidewalks adjacent to public property within 72 hours of snow storm cessation.
