Home MenuDog Exercise Areas
Except in designated dog exercise areas, dogs and cats are prohibited from Janesville parks and trails between May 15 and September 15 of each year. During permitted times, pets must be on a leash of 6 feet or less in length.
Dog exercise areas are found in designated portions of Palmer Park and the Rock River Parkway. You may use them daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. year-round. In these areas, you can exercise and train your dog without having to comply with the leash law. However, you must always have your dog under your control. Also, you must clean up after your pet and have your pets licensed. Dogs and cats are not permitted to run at-large in the City of Janesville and must be licensed when they reach the age of five months. For information about pet licensing, click here. If you take your dog or cat for a walk off your property it must be attached to a leash which is not more than 6 feet in length.
Also available is the Paw Print Park fenced-in dog park, located at Prairie Knoll Park on Oakhill Avenue near the Hwy. 11 bypass. An annual permit is required to use this park, and may be purchased at either the Parks Division or the Clerk-Treasurer's office in City Hall. A permit may not be purchased without proof of a current pet license. Permit applications and daily pass envelopes are also available at the park. The annual permit is good for one calendar year (January 1 - December 31) and a new one must be purchased each calendar year. For more information or to print a permit application, click here, Spanish version. All dogs five months and older must be licensed. City of Janesville residents may purchase a dog license at City Hall in the Clerk-Treasurer's office. A certificate showing current rabies vaccination renewal date and proof of spaying or neutering is required to purchase a dog license.
Dogs are not permitted on any public playground, golf course or school property at any time.
